HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR JEANS

You probably have a pair of jeans in your closet. This basic clothing item is often our preferred choice when we want something comfortable and stylish. But do you know how to care for them?

How often do you need to wash your jeans?

New jeans are often stiff and it takes time and patience before they fit like a glove. You have probably been told to never wash you jeans and this tip is correct. If you keep washing your jeans it will take longer for the jeans to fit your body perfectly! In fact it is advised to only wash your jeans a few times a year.

But what about bacteria?

Yes your jeans will get bacteria on them. However, as long as you are healthy, our skin functions as a perfect barrier for bacteria from your jeans so getting an infection from your jeans is highly unlikely. In fact a pair of jeans that has not been washed for a year will not have much more bacteria than a pair that has not been washed for a week.

How often should you wash you jeans?

Once a month will do. If your jeans smells bad you can air dry them outside to get rid of the smell. And should you stain you jeans, just treat the stain. However, if you have been sick or have a fungus infection you should always wash your jeans!

Should I freeze my jeans?

Some might put jeans in the freezer in order to kill bacteria and get rid of bad smell. But this is will only make the bacteria go to sleep. As soon as the jeans out of the freezer the normal temperature will wake the bacteria up again and the smell comes right back. So instead hang your jeans outside to get rid of unwanted smell or use a suitable spray for clothing.

How to wash you jeans?

Everytime you wash you jeans the color will fade so choose a cycle with max 30º and do the following:

• Empty all pockets.
• Close the zipper.
• Turn inside out.
• Never use fabric softener! 
• Airdry your jeans. Do not use the dryer.
• Use a streamer to soften your jeans. This will also allow the jeans to better suit your body.
